CONTEXT

Manufacturing, the center of innovation

Manufacturing, the center of innovation Manufacturing is a key pillar for the economic and social development and welfare of modern economies. It is central to employment and value creation, enabling innovation processes and facilitating digital and environmental transitions. In Lombardy, manufacturing embraces both the process industry and discrete manufacturing, encompassing a large number of production sectors and offers the opportunity to create a digital, circular and resilient regional ecosystem.

In this context, the SCORE initiative "Strategic Communities Open Resources for Enterprises" was born with the goal of opening the doors of the manufacturing sector to the contributions of innovation from the world of startups and scaleups. Every company, every factory, is called upon to keep up with the times through technological innovation to face the new market scenarios.. The opportunity to investigate new technological trends and open partnerships with startups becomes a fundamental step to confront and manage the challenges of the future.

For this reason, the Associazione Fabbrica Intelligente Lombardia (AFIL) decided to develop an Open Innovation project in collaboration with Skipso, stimulating and involving partner companies and international startups in a co-innovation approach.

Goals & Solution for Score

The Goal of SCORE project is to create a platform for manufacturing companies to articulate their factory requirements and future challenges, while also exploring potential solutions from startups, Scaleups, SMEs, and Research Centres worldwide.

AFIL’s Strategic Communities play a crucial role in this process, serving as key facilitators of innovation for companies that aim to maintain their competitiveness in the coming years.

aAs a result, the initiative acts as the nexus between startups and manufacturing companies affiliated with the AFIL Cluster. The specific goals of the initiative are as follows:

Facilitate meaningful interactions between AFIL-associated companies and the global innovation ecosystem involved in the project.

Strengthen the culture of innovation among AFIL members, providing them the opportunity to express their ideas and innovation challenges related to the different Strategic Communities and Supply Chains.

Generate new opportunities for start-ups, scale-ups, SMEs and research centers in the manufacturing sector.

Enable avenues for fostering partnerships and Corporate Venture Capital opportunities.

How to partecipate if you'r a startup/scaleup or SME

Enroll in the SCORE Project

If you represent a startup,scaleup,spin-off university or SMEs and wish to present your innovative solution to AFIL, simply click on "PARTICIPATE." The form will enable you to provide a concise company description, outline your solution, and attach a presentation.

Selection Phase

Following the Open Call phase, a match-making process will start, facilitating one-to-one meetings between AFIL member companies and startups. Simultaneously, a selection phase will run to identify the ten most aligned startups with AFIL's overall goals.

Pitch day

The ten selected startups will receive invitations to participate in the Pitch Day. Skipso or AFIL will provide all the necessary details at the appropriate time.

WHO WE ARE

AFIL (Associazione Fabbrica Intelligente Lombardia) is the technological cluster for advanced manufacturing in the Lombardy Region. It is the innovation ecosystem that brings together all companies (large, medium, small and start-ups), research centers, universities and industrial associations in a stable and cohesive regional supply chain. AFIL is the result of a process led by the Region for the creation of aggregation entities for the various actors active in Research and Innovation within the priority areas identified by the regional Smart Specialization Strategy (S3).

The Cluster's mission is defined by three main pillars, which serve as a solid foundation to guide its activities and objectives. - Promote the formation of a solid research and innovation ecosystem based on regional specialization, facilitating connections between businesses, start-ups, universities, research institutions and associations, stimulating cooperation and supporting research and innovation projects and initiatives. - Position itself as a point of reference for the Lombardy Region in defining research and innovation strategies and policies in the manufacturing sector. - Consolidate the position of the Lombardy manufacturing sector in Italy, Europe and the rest of the world. To achieve this objective, active participation in the National Intelligent Factory Cluster (CFI) and the connection with other European regions, within important interregional initiatives such as the Vanguard Initiative, the S3 Platform promoted by the European Commission and the Four Engines of 'Europe. Finally, the Cluster coordinates the Lombard node of the Advanced Manufacturing HUBs within the World Economic Forum (WEF).
