STRATEGIC COMMUNITIES
AFIL Strategic Communities
The Strategic Communities (SC) of AFIL are specialized working groups formed by members who share a common interest and dedication to strategic matters in Lombardy's manufacturing sector. These groups thrive on the participants' diverse expertise and interests.
Comprising key regional stakeholders, the SCs focus on recognizing challenges, requirements, and prospects in advanced manufacturing. Their primary objectives are to foster collaborations, establish synergies, and devise projects and solutions that promote industrial ecosystem growth and enhance overall competitiveness.

ABOUT
What about De- and Remanufacturing for Circular Economy?
Amidst the Covid-19 emergency and the worldwide repercussions it brought, we have come to realize that supporting Research and Innovation can significantly contribute to tackling challenges arising from unforeseen and disruptive events. The Circular Economy, in particular, emerges as a vital approach to mitigate negative impacts on the environment, reduce dependence on foreign resources, and foster sustainable business models.
Hence, the Strategic Community “De- and Remanufacturing for Circular Economy” has united key regional stakeholders committed to promoting Circular Economy and sustainability. Together, they focus on developing materials, products, technologies, and innovative processes geared towards reuse, remanufacturing, and recycling, as outlined in the SC's 2020 Roadmap.
Within this Strategic Community, several proposals have surfaced, including one dedicated to the Steel Industry. Its main objectives entail:
- • Scaling up innovative processes/technologies for recovering process waste and enabling new applications on an industrial level.
- • Enhancing inter-supply chain exchanges through standardization and digitalization, facilitating product/process integration within the ecosystem.
- Strengthening the R&D ecosystem, environmental monitoring, dissemination, training, and skill development.
Furthermore, another proposal stemming from the SC pertains to the Textile Industry, which encompasses the following macro-investment gaols:
- Streamlining regulatory and authorization procedures for facilitating circular practices.
- Developing novel circular business models to enhance reuse and recycling of consumer goods and products.
- Assessing environmental circularity impact and adopting ecodesign principles.
- Reinforcing essential facilities, such as laboratories, multi-sector research and testing centers, and industrial laboratories, alongside the textile industry's reuse and recycling sector. This involves strengthening and creating systems, processes, and technologies for reverse logistics, sorting, and recycling of textile products.
- Shifting from a sectoral approach to a systemic approach through the formulation of inter-sector agreements.
- Promoting dissemination and providing training to foster knowledge and skills development.
The supply chain project "RE4TES - REGIONAL RECYCLING PROCESSES FOR TEXTILE" was approved on 14 December 2022.
